02 — Our Story

Born in Cairo.

Cairo Day Tours was founded in 2012 by Ahmed, a Cairo-born Egyptologist who was tired of seeing travelers rushed through sites with guides who recited scripts. He wanted to offer something different: small groups, real conversation, and the kind of knowledge that only comes from a lifetime spent with these stones.

Today we're a team of 14 licensed Egyptologist guides, each with their own specialty and personality. We still run every tour personally. We still pick up every guest from their hotel. We still believe that the best way to see Egypt is slowly, with someone who loves it.

Is Egypt safe for tourists?

Yes. Egypt's tourist areas are very safe, and millions of visitors travel here every year without incident. We've been operating since 2012 and have never had a safety issue. We monitor conditions constantly and will always let you know if anything changes.

What should I wear / bring?

Comfortable walking shoes, sun protection (hat, sunscreen), and modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees (especially for mosques). We'll send you a detailed packing list after booking. Bring water — we'll provide some, but it gets hot.

Are entrance fees included?

Entrance fees are not included in the tour price — this keeps our prices transparent and lets you choose which sites to enter. We'll advise on what's worth it. Typical entrance fees range from $10-25 per site, payable in cash at the gate.

Can I book a private tour?

Absolutely. Private tours are available for any of our itineraries and can be customized to your interests and pace. Perfect for families, couples, or anyone who prefers a more personal experience. Just ask when you enquire.

What's your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your tour. Within 24 hours, we charge 50%. No-shows are non-refundable. We're flexible when things come up — just let us know as soon as you can.

Is the tour suitable for children?

Yes — our guides are great with kids and we regularly host families. Children under 6 are free, 6-12 get 50% off. Just note that some sites involve a lot of walking and climbing, so we'll advise on what's suitable for your children's ages.
